I do not believe I inhabit earth with one saintly, majestic individual but rather with countless persons striving to ignite a glow in a darkening society. When young, my Heroes list consisted of the hippest popstars, along with most talented atheletes. As i have matured out of childhood the clouds of ignorance have cleared and i have realised that characteristics that make someone a Hero is not their fame or their bank balance, but their humility, and selflessness. Gallantry, preserverence, intrepidity, determination and sacrifice are traits diplayed daily, even if subtle, by ordinary people in our lives that are disregaurded as heroic. Whether it be the strugling single mother down the street, the smalltown squad of volunteer firefighters, or the underpaid teacher inspiring future leaders, humble heroes fill our world often silent, and taken for granted but none-the-less vital to our communities.

I have always aspired to be a serving sally, but my natural selfish humanism proves to be a significant restraint. The times, though seldom, that I do get off of my high-horse and give a helping hand, I find myself complaining with a smug look on my face for the majority of the act. Volunteering is often left to the those smelly people who don’t shave, or people without jobs or lives. If everyone (including myself) left the couch and potato chips, or their scheduled-out palm pilots and extended their time and energy to contribute to a good cause, the world might just be a little happier place to inhabit.

I reckon Kangaroos should be free to hop around in the outback rather than be confined to a synthetic environment. Absence from their homeland means absence from their intended Kangaroo lifestyle. They miss out on kick-boxing matches with their mates, and the chance to live in harmony with other species native to Australia. Though it is fun to visit the astonishing creatures at the zoo, I’d prefer to see them with their Joey’s in their pouches hopping around blissfully with freedom.

Though being “green” is often looked as a new fad that will soon pass, the trend certainly needs to stick around and become a way of life for the earth’s inhabitants, Americans inparticular. Our home, the earth, has been pushed to the bottom of our To Do lists, including mine, and because of this neglect future generations will suffer from our literally “world changing” mishaps. Simple actions can address this issue such as the flick of a light switch, abandoning those indulging long hot showers, or placing a recycle bin by your trash. Even minor changes can make a difference if we all take part in living with the earth’s well being in mind. I myself will try to adapt even more to this much needed lifestyle, and i hope to see others do the same in order to preserve our blessing, Earth.

Centuries old yet still so atonishing, I thought, as I relaxed by the simple camp fire.

I thought this podcast was very well done, it captured my attention from the start and I was captivated through to the finish. There was a great choice of music that created a distict mood for the novel and podcast. Though I haven’t read Drowning Anna after listening to this podcast I feel like I know the essence of the novel but I’m left with a need to know it more in depth. The dialect in the podcast was very well done, I could definately tell between the charcters and could sense what kind of person they were by the variation in voices. Drowning Anna seems like a story full of life that i wouldn’t have known about if i hadn’t heard this podcast. This novel now is one i certainly hope to read in the near future. This presentation has definately changed my outlook on podcasts. I look forward to listening to more podcasts and learning about more books.
